On “Giving Back” To Society…
Man I feel gooooood today…
Not just your standard everyday “good”, I can’t pinpoint exactly what it really is, but I guess the nearest is more like ‘satisfied’, no wait, it should be more like ‘proud’ good I guess…
See, today was the day I actually took some time off and went over to teach Engrish to orphan kiddos in Puchong (forgot the place-lah, my friend brought me there, but it was much deeper in into Puchong Perdana that side…)
Hey who would’ve thought I would even bother doing such things, but I’ve got to thank my buddy Adrian for knocking some sense into my head for doing it…
I really respect the guy-lah, one of the most genuinely good-hearted guys I know, always thinking of others, never self, I guess he was and still is one of the few I turn to especially when it comes to questions of spirituality and faith…
You the man bro…
Hey not the mention the new people I met there; volunteer “teachers” like myself haha.. it was a fun experience no doubt. The “together-ness” feeling, very nice-lah
But the most fulfilling was definitely the part of teaching the kids; they range from boys and girls ages 3-14, all from abandoned homes, I think there were easily 25 of them (apparently this is considered LOW by normal standards wor) and **surprise surprise** what luck, I was actually given the task of teaching the weakest ones along with Mr Boon Boon hahaha, but who could resist such a challenge, right?
It wasn’t easy teaching them mind you, their standard of Engrish actually quite bad to the point where I had to resort to using SLOW BM to teach them word by word…
But guess what? My personal “student” Poovin did actually learn a couple of new words after I was “finished” with him muahaha… so proud-lah..
Duster… desks, cupboard, computer, cat, broom, triangle, square and rectangle were the words he learnt today
These kids are like soo friendly, soooo playful, sooo innocent, soooo cute, yet it was quite sad to see how they were left with no parents to care and nurture them at such a young age, still they looked sooooo happy!
Reminds me of how lucky we all are to have the things that we have yet we tend to take them for granted sometimes… **sigh**
Well, I’m off to the gym right now, but next Saturday afternoon, I’ll DEFINITELY be back there to the orphanage again to give me 2nd lesson
On a separate note, if you can, you should also try to take some time off to help those who are less fortunate than yourself; it does make a world of a difference to THEM, however “small” you think your contributions may be…
It really does.
I felt it firsthand, when Poovin suddenly took out his tiny little hand at the end of the lesson and said “thank you teacher”
The feeling was a fuzzy “warmhearted” one
Aiyoyo… sooo sentimental-lah akakaka
Ok adios amigos!
Talk to you soon!
